EL AL has joined a select list of approximately 50 global airlines participating in an international program led by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The program evaluates airlines’ commitment to improving environmental performance and sustainability.
As part of the initiative, EL AL is investing in green technologies, innovative programs, and advanced operational methods. In 2024, the airline signed the largest aircraft purchase deal in its history to modernize and renew its narrow-body fleet with advanced, fuel-efficient planes. This complements the addition of Boeing 787 Dreamliners, which have been part of EL AL’s wide-body fleet since 2017.

This is a significant milestone in our journey toward a better environmental future
EL AL is the first Israeli airline to join the program, aiming to upgrade and streamline fuel efficiency efforts and enhance its environmental performance.

As noted, EL AL is one of just 50 airlines worldwide to receive this certification. It joins an elite group of international carriers already participating in the program, including British Airways, Air Canada, Finnair, Iberia, SAS, Air New Zealand, Emirates, and others.
EL AL CEO Dina Ben-Tal Ganancia said:
“We are proud to be part of a select group of airlines around the world that have received IATA’s IEnvA certification. This is a significant milestone in our journey to reduce our carbon footprint and create a better environmental future. We will continue to act responsibly and decisively to promote environmental and sustainability initiatives as part of EL AL’s strategic plan.”
