In a first-of-its-kind initiative in Israel, dozens of Gilboa DMR (Designated Marksman Rifle) models have been provided to members of the civilian security squads across the communities of Samaria. These rifles, capable of accurately engaging threats at ranges of up to 800 meters, were given to trained volunteer citizens for the immediate protection of their towns and villages.
Donated from Abroad – Made in Israel
The project was made possible thanks to a donation of approximately one million shekels from supporters of Samaria in the United States, Europe, and other countries. The weapons were purchased from an Israeli manufacturer by veterans of the elite Yamam and Duvdevan units—highlighting their high operational quality and unique adaptability to the local terrain. Each rifle is valued at around 28,000 shekels.
Yossi Dagan, head of the Samaria Regional Council, explained that the initiative came as part of the lessons learned from the October 7 massacre.
“It is our duty to be strong, to bring all our strength together with the IDF, and to create an iron fist against our enemies,” he said. “We are part of Israel’s security system—and we will do everything to make sure that October 7 never happens again.”

Rifles, Drones, and Ammunition
In addition to the marksman rifles, hundreds of ARAD and Emtan rifles, tactical vests, helmets, drones, night vision equipment, and other weapons systems were also purchased. As part of a broader defense effort, the council also helped acquire handguns for 500 women living in communities throughout Samaria.
Alongside the regional council, members of “Gideon’s Support Unit”—led by Rabbi and attorney Tzuriel Bublil and Gideon Margalit—also took part in the project. Since the Simchat Torah attack, they have been leading efforts to provide security assistance to communities across the country.
“We asked ourselves what we could contribute,” said Bublil. “And Samaria is the heart of Israel.”

During the weapon distribution event, Dagan addressed the members of the civilian security squads:
“You defend your communities day and night—whether during reserve duty or at home with your personal weapons. Now, you’re doing it with professional, heavy-duty arms. Thanks to you—we will achieve a great victory.”
