The latest round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States concluded today (Saturday) at the Omani Embassy in Rome, with both sides adopting a positive tone. According to a statement from Iran’s Foreign Ministry, the discussions lasted about four hours and were held “in a constructive atmosphere.” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said the parties “reached a better understanding on a number of principles and goals,” and that the talks would resume this coming Wednesday at the technical level in Oman. Another senior-level round is expected next Saturday.

Oman: “For the first time – an agreement to forgo nuclear weapons while allowing civilian uranium enrichment”
Oman’s Foreign Ministry officially confirmed: “The parties agreed to move forward to the next stage, which will allow for the signing of an agreement under which Iran will remain without nuclear weapons and free of sanctions – but will be allowed to maintain civilian uranium enrichment.”

According to assessments, the breakthrough was made possible by an American concession on its longstanding demand for the complete dismantlement of Iran’s nuclear program and a total halt to uranium enrichment.

Israel monitoring developments – not ruling out a strike
The negotiations were conducted in an indirect format, with the Iranian and American delegations seated in separate rooms while Omani mediators relayed messages – a model preferred by Iran since the U.S. withdrawal from the agreement in 2018. Meanwhile, the Iranian foreign minister accused Israel of being “the sole obstacle to a nuclear-weapons-free Middle East.”

According to a Reuters report, Israel is not ruling out the possibility of a limited military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities – even without American backing. An Iranian official warned Reuters: “We are aware of Israel’s plans – and it will be met with a harsh and decisive response.”

Before the talks: Trump declares – “Iran must give up dream of nuclear weapon or face harsh response”
Hours before the talks began, U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the issue, stating: “Iran must give up dream of nuclear weapon or face harsh response.” His statement came after confusion surrounding comments by Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, who initially said Iran could continue low-level enrichment, but later clarified that the nuclear program must be reassessed.

Despite his tough tone, Trump added: “Iran has the potential to be a great country,” emphasizing that he supports a diplomatic solution.
