Defense Minister Israel Katz spoke this morning (Thursday) with Major General Yaniv Asor and Brigadier General Itzik Cohen, congratulating them on their appointments to the roles of Commander of Southern Command and Head of the Operations Directorate at the General Staff: “I wish you success and am confident that together with the Chief of Staff, Major General Eyal Zamir, and the senior command forum, you will lead this incredible generation of IDF soldiers, both regular and reserve, who fight valiantly and courageously, to a decisive victory in all arenas and against every enemy.” The minister emphasized to the officers that the State of Israel needs them and trusts them.
Asor enlisted in the 12th Brigade of the Golani Infantry Brigade in 1990 and served in a variety of significant roles in the IDF. Among others, Asor served as Deputy Commander of the first breach battalion (51) in the Golani Brigade during Operation Defensive Shield, as Commander of the first breach battalion (51) during the Second Lebanon War, where the battalion under his command received a commendation from the Northern Command, as Commander of the Egoz Unit, as Commander of the Hiram Formation, as Deputy Commander of the Gaash Formation, as Commander of the Golani Brigade, and as Commander of the Bashan Formation, as well as Head of the Operations Division and Head of Human Resources. The officer will begin his role next week.
Cohen enlisted in the Givati Brigade in 1995 and also served in a range of important and fascinating roles in the army. Among other roles, Cohen served as Commander of the Tzabar Battalion (432) in the Givati Brigade, Head of Urban Warfare Branch at Ground Forces Command, Commander of the Training and Instruction Base in the Givati Brigade, Commander of the Yoav Regional Brigade, Commander of the Judah Regional Brigade, Commander of the Givati Brigade, Commander of the Red Formation (80), and Commander of the Steel Formation (162). The officer will be promoted to the rank of Major General and will begin his role in the coming months.
Additional Changes in IDF Personnel:
The IDF has approved for publication the appointments of additional commanders, the promotion of which was determined during a discussion held yesterday, chaired by Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir and approved by the Defense Minister. The commanders will face numerous challenges in their roles and lead Israel to victory in the ongoing campaign across different sectors.
