Billie the dog, who was kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Oz during the October 7 massacre, was recently located in Gaza by a Golani unit and brought back to Israel. Today (Wednesday), she is expected to be reunited with her family from Nir Oz.
Disappeared on Simchat Torah
Billie, a three-and-a-half-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, was taken from the home of Rachel Danzig in Nir Oz — the ex-wife of the late Alex Danzig, who was murdered in Gaza — during the Simchat Torah attack. For many months, the family had no idea what had become of her. Just a few days ago, soldiers from the IDF’s Golani Brigade, 13th Battalion, operating in the Rafah area, found the dog.
He protected the dog at all costs
Hanoch Daum, who shared the story on his Facebook page, wrote: “A., a reservist fighting in Gaza, saw a purebred dog emerge from the rubble and approach him.” The soldier said, “She heard Hebrew and came out.”
Thanks to the chip implanted in her, it was discovered that she belonged to the Danzig family from Kibbutz Nir Oz. “We’re trying to reach the owners. I’m praying there’s someone to return her to,” Daum wrote.
As mentioned, contact was reestablished with the family, and after a long journey, Billie is expected to return home today — nearly a year and a half after she disappeared. Daum concluded: “And thank you to our reservists, who are watching over us even during the holidays.”
