The Defense Minister’s Shield is awarded to organizations that promote the values of military reserve service as a vital contribution to Israeli society and national security—while protecting reservists’ rights, building robust support systems, and honoring their commitment. This week, Afeka Academic College of Engineering received the award for its outstanding support of students and staff serving in the IDF reserves.
42% of Students Called to Duty
More than 42% of Afeka’s students were called up for reserve duty during the war. Faculty, lecturers, and staff also took part in the national effort. Despite this dual challenge, Afeka maintained academic continuity and provided comprehensive support—academically, administratively, financially, and emotionally.

“This Award Is a Mark of Honor for the College”
Afeka stated: “Throughout this time, we’ve been committed to listening, adapting, and doing everything possible to help our reservist students continue their studies—preserving the quality of education and safeguarding their professional futures, even after demanding service.”
Professor Ami Moyal, President of Afeka Academic College of Engineering, added:
“Supporting the reserve system is an inseparable part of Afeka’s DNA. Receiving this award is a badge of honor for the college. But the real credit goes to our dedicated students in uniform who show responsibility, devotion, and leadership. We consider it our academic, moral, and national obligation to give them everything they need to succeed.”
