The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit announced (Friday) that IDF soldier Sgt. Asaf Zamir z”l, 19, from Dimona, was killed by an anti-tank missile fired at a tank from Battalion 53 of the Barak Formation in Khan Younis. Zamir, a tank crewman, was operating as part of the IDF forces in southern Gaza in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
Anti-Tank Missile Fired at Tank – Evacuation Under Fire
The incident occurred this morning around 7:30 a.m., when a terrorist launched an anti-tank missile at an IDF tank engaged in an operational mission in southern Khan Younis. As a result of the strike, Zamir was killed instantly, and two other soldiers were seriously wounded. Another soldier sustained moderate injuries.
Immediately following the strike, IDF rescue forces operated under complex conditions to evacuate the casualties from the scene. During the evacuation, additional gunfire was directed at the force, likely from another terrorist. As a result of this fire, the company commander was lightly injured.

Earlier today, it was also announced that Sgt. Yair Eliyahu, 19, from Azar, a combat engineering soldier in the Northern Brigade, was killed in a tragic incident in northern Gaza, defined as an operational accident. According to the details, during an operation by the Northern Brigade in the Beit Hanoun area, an engineering vehicle fell into a deep pit and struck another vehicle nearby — where Yair was located.
The devastating incident occurred as part of engineering efforts in the northern part of the Gaza Strip, and the secondary vehicle’s impact proved fatal. The IDF has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of the accident.
Sgt. Yair Eliyahu is survived by his family, friends, and a unit that bows its head in mourning.
