Rima Hassan, French Member of the European Parliament of Palestinian descent, is currently under arrest in Israel, after joining what the Foreign Ministry mockingly dubbed the “selfie yacht” to Gaza, and she’s found something to complain about: the tap water.
“The water in Israel is dirty”
According to journalist Avishai Grinzaig, Hassan has refused to drink the tap water at the Israeli detention facility, claiming that “the water in Israel is dirty.” She’s demanding that the Border Police and Israel Prison Service supply her exclusively with bottled mineral water, and won’t touch the same water given to all other detainees.

Hassan was arrested in Israel after joining the widely publicized and deliberately provocative “humanitarian aid” flotilla to Gaza—an attention-seeking stunt aimed at challenging the naval blockade on the Strip. The vessel she sailed on was intercepted by elite Shayetet 13 commandos, who carried out a non-violent boarding and towed the boat to shore with support from Israeli security forces.

Headed for a Judge
The activists, including Rima Hassan, were transferred to Israel for detention following the interception, taken to a designated facility in Ashdod, and processed according to standard procedures. Some participants, such as Greta Thunberg, signed deportation papers and were sent home. Hassan, however, refused to sign and remains in custody until her court hearing, as required under Israeli law.
