Billionaire Elon Musk, who until recently served in the U.S. administration, issued an apology this morning (Wednesday) to U.S. President Donald Trump in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Musk acknowledged that some of the posts he had published were excessive:
“I apologize for some of my posts last week against President Trump,” he wrote. “They went too far.” Musk did not specify which posts he was referring to.

The dispute between them
As a reminder, last week President Trump and Musk traded a series of public insults online, following Musk’s resignation from his role at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Although the resignation initially seemed to be amicable, it quickly escalated into a public falling-out. Musk called the president’s tax cut legislation a “vile disgrace,” hinted that Trump owed his election victory to him, and expressed interest in supporting Trump’s removal from office and launching a new political party. In response, Trump said Musk had “lost his mind.”

It was also reported that, shortly before stepping down, Musk got into a scuffle with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in the halls of the White House—an altercation that was broken up by others. Trump remarked, “That’s too much,” and Musk’s tenure was soon brought to an end.

This morning, as noted, Musk posted a public apology. Sources close to him say he is unhappy with how events unfolded and is looking to repair his relationship with the president.
