During a debate in the Dutch Parliament on Thursday, Geert Wilders, leader of the Party for Freedom (PVV), gave an emotional speech in which he emphasized Israel’s battle against Islamic terrorism and its significance for the entire Western world. “If Israel falls, everything we believe in will fall with her,” said Wilders. His remarks were met with loud applause from a considerable number of parliamentarians.
“Israel is fighting our fight,” said Wilders. “If Israel falls—if the Jewish state, which shares our Judeo-Christian heritage, falls—then Jerusalem will fall, and Athens, Paris, and Amsterdam will follow.”

He underscored Israel’s importance to Western democracy, adding, “They are fighting our battle, and the reason our mothers in the West can sleep peacefully is because the mothers of Israeli soldiers lie awake, worrying whether their children will make it home alive from the front.”
Wilders continued, “Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East,” and pointed to the threats the country faces, including “terror from Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad.” “They’re doing it for themselves,” he said, “but also for us—to safeguard freedom and democracy.”
Wilders brings down the government
As previously reported, Geert Wilders announced this week that his party would withdraw from the coalition government—a move that resulted in its collapse. The decision came after months of tension with his coalition partners over immigration policy and amid growing criticism he voiced over the government’s position on Israel following the war in Gaza.
