The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit announced this morning (Wednesday) that Staff Sergeant Danilo Mocanu, from Holon, a soldier in the 51st Company of Battalion 82, “Golan Storm” Formation (7th Brigade), was killed yesterday in combat in the southern Gaza Strip. Danilo was 20 years old. His family has been notified. He was posthumously promoted from Sergeant to Staff Sergeant.
An Explosive Device Planted by Terrorists
During the tragic incident in which the soldier was killed, an IDF force was operating inside a four-story building in the eastern Khan Younis area, unaware that the structure had been rigged with explosives. Shortly after the troops entered, a powerful explosive device was detonated. An initial investigation indicates the bomb was planted by terrorists. The IDF is currently working to determine how the device was triggered.
The explosion caused the entire building to collapse. Staff Sergeant Danilo Mocanu was killed instantly. Another soldier was lightly wounded and evacuated for medical treatment.

The Second Fallen Soldier in One Week
Only two days ago, the IDF declared the death of another soldier in northern Gaza: Sergeant Yosef Yehuda Hirak from Harasha. Yosef Yehuda had gotten married only about seven months earlier. He was laid to rest yesterday at Mount Herzl and is survived by his parents and three sisters.

The Fighting in Gaza Continues
Against the backdrop of this painful loss, the fighting continues to intensify as part of Operation “Gideon’s Chariots.” Yesterday (Tuesday), IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir conducted a situational assessment and field tour in the Gaza Strip.
“We Will Capture More Territory”
During the tour, the Chief of Staff declared:
“Hamas will pay the price for its refusal – it will face overwhelming firepower. We will broaden the maneuver, capture more territory, clear and destroy the terror infrastructure until Hamas is defeated. We are defending ourselves, and to do so, we must strike.”
Zamir also stated:“Hamas has only one option – to release our hostages. If an agreement is reached, the IDF will adjust its operations accordingly.”
