Edan Alexander, who was released yesterday from Hamas captivity, spoke by phone with U.S. President Donald Trump in a conversation arranged by Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, who visited Edan at the hospital.
During the call, Trump congratulated Edan on his safe return to Israel and expressed admiration for his courage throughout captivity.
Edan Chooses Not to Travel to Qatar
Despite having been invited by President Trump himself, Edan Alexander has decided not to travel to Qatar, citing medical concerns and the need for rest and recovery. His family stated that while he deeply appreciates Trump’s support during his captivity, remaining under medical supervision is currently the best option.

People close to the family said that Trump had been eager to meet Edan personally in Qatar, but after careful medical consideration, he chose to stay in Israel. Doctors advised him to continue recuperating from the trauma he endured during captivity.
White House Visit Planned
Edan’s family said he is grateful for Trump’s efforts and hopes to meet him in the future at the White House. According to current plans, a formal meeting with Trump in the U.S. is expected to take place after his recovery. Steve Witkoff, Trump’s envoy, visited the hospital this morning, offering encouragement and personally delivering Trump’s message. He added that the President was glad to hear Edan was home safely, and reaffirmed America’s commitment to supporting Israeli hostages.
Moments from the Abduction
Edan has begun to recount to his family the traumatic events of October 7, when he fought bravely against roughly 30 Hamas terrorists before being taken to Gaza. Initially, he was held in harsh conditions alongside Rimon Kirsht and her partner Yagev Buchstab, who was killed in captivity. He was later moved to a separate location, where he spent the last nine months with fellow hostage Matan Tzangauker.
