Ahead of the anticipated release of IDF soldier Edan Alexander, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with Steve Witkoff, the U.S. President’s special envoy to the Middle East, and U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee. Following the meeting, Netanyahu spoke by phone with President Donald Trump and thanked him for his assistance in securing Edan’s release.

During their conversation, President Trump reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to Israel’s security and expressed his desire to continue close cooperation with the Prime Minister, particularly in light of the region’s growing security challenges.

Ongoing Efforts to Free the Hostages
In the meeting with Envoy Witkoff and Ambassador Huckabee, the parties discussed the outline proposed by Witkoff for the release of Israeli hostages prior to any expansion of military activity. The Prime Minister instructed that a negotiation team be dispatched to Doha as early as tomorrow to begin working toward implementation of the plan.

Netanyahu made clear in the meeting that talks with Hamas will be held only under fire, with no concessions from Israel.
“The current reality demands that we stand firm in the face of pressure and not yield to terrorist demands,” said a senior diplomatic source familiar with the details of the meeting.

The Release of Edan Alexander
After intensive diplomatic efforts led by the U.S. administration, IDF soldier Edan Alexander was freed from captivity. Security officials noted that progress in the talks resulted from the vigorous efforts of the Israeli delegation and substantial support from the American administration.

Strengthening U.S.–Israel Ties
During the meeting, all parties emphasized the critical importance of U.S.–Israel cooperation, especially in a time of heightened regional tension. Envoy Witkoff underscored America’s deep commitment to Israel’s security and stated that President Trump’s administration remains actively engaged in pursuing diplomatic solutions in full coordination with Jerusalem.
