A moving ceremony was held today (Thursday) at the Ori Bnei Akiva Midrasha in Jerusalem to inaugurate a memorial sitting area in the school courtyard in memory of Captain (res.) Rabbi Avraham Yosef Goldberg, of blessed memory, who fell in the war.

The ceremony was attended by Rabbi Goldberg’s family members—including his niece, a student at the midrasha—and by relatives of Adi Alush, of blessed memory, who founded the “Even Hapina” (“Cornerstone”) initiative to honor fallen soldiers through dedicated remembrance spaces.

Adi Alush, of blessed memory, who initiated the memorial project, was killed in a car accident in Sri Lanka about a year ago. Since then, his friends and family have continued to carry out his vision and uphold the legacy he left behind. Today’s ceremony left no eye dry, as his loved ones emphasized the lasting importance of the path he paved.

A Corner in Memory of Spiritual Heroes
The new corner includes four benches, a table, and flower planters. It will serve as a place for students to rest and study. Yiska Lev, head of the midrasha, explained the thought behind the initiative.

“We wanted to give a face, a name, and a place to someone who fell in the war, as a way to create a real sense of connection and belonging for our students toward the great spiritual and moral figures who walk among us,” she said.
