An emergency meeting was held on Thursday to discuss the status of flights to Israel due to the security situation. The meeting was prompted by the cancellation of flights by foreign airlines following the missile launch from Yemen toward the Ben Gurion Airport area.
“Keeping the Skies Open”
Transport Minister Miri Regev highlighted the role of Israeli airlines: “Israeli airlines are stepping up and continuing to fly, and they deserve credit for that. However, as I made clear, we cannot allow them to exploit the situation for price gouging,” she stressed.
“We continue to keep the skies open, and Israelis know that even now they can fly to and from Israel. Sometimes the return flight may be delayed, but even if there is a delay, they will return,” Regev added.
Minister of Economy Calls for Responsibility
Minister of Economy Nir Barkat addressed the rising ticket prices by Israeli airlines: “In a national emergency, I expect Israeli airlines to step up, show responsibility, and not take advantage of the situation,” he said. “This is a test of solidarity, and Israeli airlines should act with a sense of mission, not burden the public,” Barkat added.

“We Know They Will All Return”
Regev also noted that the Ministry of Transport shared the IDF’s report with foreign aviation authorities: “They were impressed, which is why they are allowing flights to Israel. Nevertheless, some airlines, due to their own considerations, prefer to delay their return to the country.” Regev assured that foreign airlines would eventually resume flights to Israel: “We have learned from experience and know that they will all return. Even now, 25 airlines continue to fly to Israel,” Regev stated.

Emergency Plans for Stranded Israelis
The focus of the meeting includes assistance for Israelis stranded abroad, limiting prices to key destinations, and preparing for continued disruptions—including emergency plans in case of another wave of cancellations.
The meeting is attended by Transport Minister Miri Regev and heads of Israeli airlines: El Al, Israir, Arkia, and Air Haifa. Other participants include Transport Ministry Director-General Moshe Ben-Zaken; Economy Ministry Director-General Moti Gamish; Director of the Civil Aviation Authority Shmuel Zakai; Director of the Israel Airports Authority Sharon Kedmi; Ben Gurion Airport Director Udi Bar-Oz; and other professional officials.
