Sharon Ben Moshe was driving when a missile alert from Yemen appeared on her phone. She and her daughter immediately exited the vehicle and lay flat on the roadside. When they returned, they found the car completely wrecked by shrapnel. Sharon is still processing what she and her daughter endured.
“There was a huge boom, the entire car was destroyed,” she recounts. “If we hadn’t followed the instructions – we wouldn’t be here now.”
Near Ben Gurion Airport
On Sunday, missile alerts were issued following a launch from Yemen, with the missile falling near Ben Gurion Airport. The incident ended with five people lightly injured.
After receiving the alert, Sharon and her daughter responded quickly and calmly.
“I didn’t think twice,” Sharon said. “We pulled over, got out of the car, and moved beyond the roadside barrier. We lay on the ground and protected our heads with our hands – exactly as we were taught.”

They Discovered Extensive Damage
They remained on the ground for ten minutes – as instructed by the Home Front Command – even when it seemed the danger had passed. When the wait was over, they returned to the vehicle and were shocked by what they saw.
“The entire rear of the car was crushed. There was a strong smell of smoke, and shrapnel was everywhere,” Sharon recalled. “I don’t even want to imagine what would have happened if we had stayed inside.”
The Home Front Command continues to emphasize that these instructions are designed precisely for such incidents. When a missile alert occurs on a highway, the guidance is to safely pull over, exit the vehicle, move beyond the shoulder or guardrail, lie on the ground, and protect your head for ten minutes—even if it seems the danger has passed.
