A meaningful event took place today (Sunday) at the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem: newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee met in his office with Yossi Dagan, Head of the Samaria Regional Council — marking the first such meeting in the Ambassador’s office with a regional Israeli official.
As part of the meeting, the two affixed a unique mezuzah at the entrance to the Ambassador’s office, made from stones taken from Mount Ebal in the Samaria region.
The mezuzah, created by Israeli artist Assaf Kidron from the community of Itamar, was presented to the Ambassador by Dagan. The two affixed it together, with Dagan reciting the traditional blessing for affixing a mezuzah and the Shehecheyanu blessing.
A Symbol of Connection
Samaria Regional Council Head Yossi Dagan said:
“I’m very excited to affix this mezuzah. We — the citizens of Samaria, the people of Israel, and Jews around the world — appreciate you. I want to thank you for your heart, your partnership, and everything you are doing for Israel and for the United States.”
Ambassador Huckabee also expressed his appreciation, saying:
“Thank you to my friend Yossi Dagan. It is an honor to receive such a beautiful gift from Samaria. It will serve as a reminder, every time I enter my office, that there are people praying for the peace of Jerusalem. And we all pray for peace in Judea and Samaria, and peace for all of Israel.”
The warm meeting and shared gesture reflect the long-standing cooperation between Dagan and Huckabee, who have worked together over the years to strengthen American support for Judea and Samaria.
