Noam Was a Beloved Youth Leader and Yali Was Everyone’s Friend – The Stories of the Soldiers Who Fell in Gaza

During the fighting in the southern Gaza Strip, Captain Noam Ravid and Staff Sergeant Yali Sharur from the Yahalom combat engineering unit were killed. This is the story of two soldiers who courageously gave their lives.

Captain Noam Ravid, 23, from Shaarei Tikva, an officer in the Yahalom unit; and Staff Sergeant Yali Sharur, 20, from Omer, a soldier in the Yahalom unit, fell yesterday (Saturday) in battle in the southern Gaza Strip.

23 years old, from Shaarei Tikva, an officer in Yahalom, part of the IDF’s Combat Engineering Corps, Noam was a member of the “Orot” chapter of Bnei Akiva in Shaarei Tikva. He was active in the youth group and was a beloved counselor among his mentees.

The Shomron Regional Council said: “Our hearts go out over the tremendous loss suffered by the Ravid and Naamat families upon receiving the bitter news. The entire council bows its head and shares in the family’s deep sorrow.”

Shomron Regional Council head Avi Roeh eulogized: “Noam was one of our finest. He fought bravely in this war, defending the people and the land. He fell heroically in battle in Rafah. We send condolences to the extended Ravid family and to the entire community.”

Noam is survived by his parents and three siblings. The funeral of Captain Noam Ravid will take place today at 2:00 p.m. at the Elkanah cemetery.

Staff Sergeant Yali Sharur, of blessed memory
Staff Sergeant Yali Sharur was 20 years old, from Omer, a soldier in the Yahalom unit, part of the IDF’s Combat Engineering Corps.

The Omer Regional Council eulogized: “Yali was a beloved young man, full of light, joy for life, and generosity – always surrounded by friends, always there for everyone. Everyone who met him instantly felt his goodness. They say the best go first – Yali was the best of them.”

Omer Council head Erez Badash wrote: “Our hearts are broken. All of Omer mourns his fall today. Yali was the kind of person you meet – and instantly fall in love with. A big smile, a huge heart, a friend to everyone. A man of values, love, and action.”

“The pain of the Sharur family is all of our pain. On behalf of all the residents of Omer – I send a deep embrace and heartfelt condolences to the family. I and the entire council stand by the Sharur family and are at their service,” Badash added.

The funeral of Staff Sergeant Yehli Sharur will take place today at 4:00 p.m. at the cemetery in Omer.
