As tensions escalate in southern Syria, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a direct warning Thursday to the Syrian regime: stop targeting the Druze population—or face harsh consequences. “I once again warn Syrian regime leader Julani: If attacks on the Druze community in Syria do not cease, Israel will respond with severe force,” Katz declared in a public statement.

Medical Evacuations and Humanitarian Action
Over the past 24 hours, at least five wounded Druze civilians from Syria have been evacuated into Israel for medical treatment. Two of them were transferred today to Ziv Medical Center in Safed, joining three others treated yesterday.

In a parallel humanitarian gesture, Interior Minister Moshe Arbel authorized the entry of a pregnant Syrian Druze woman and her husband for childbirth in Israel, under emergency medical protocols.

“The Interior Ministry remains committed to enabling humanitarian entry for Druze from Syria in coordination with national security authorities,” Arbel stated.

IDF: Fully Deployed Along Syrian Border
The IDF confirmed heightened readiness along the southern Syria frontier, especially near Druze villages. “Forces are deployed to block hostile elements from entering Druze population centers. We are monitoring developments closely and are prepared for multiple scenarios,” the military said.

Israel’s Commitment to the Druze
Defense Minister Katz noted that following recent attacks, Prime Minister Netanyahu and himself authorized targeted warning strikes against extremist elements and sent a clear message to the Syrian regime.

“We are fully committed to protecting the Druze—our partners in Israel and their relatives across the border in Syria,” Katz emphasized.

This year’s Memorial Day has brought added weight to this commitment, as the Druze community’s longstanding loyalty and sacrifice for Israel remains a source of national gratitude.
