Hostage survivor Eli Sharabi participated today (Thursday) in the “March of the Living,” which began at 14:00 and proceeds from Auschwitz to Birkenau, lasting approximately two and a half hours.
“Victory of the Jewish Spirit”
During a tour of Auschwitz earlier today, Sharabi said, “The Holocaust of the Jewish people in Europe is unlike anything else. We will never forget and we will never forgive.”
He added, “Our presence here is the victory of the Jewish spirit. The Jewish people will exist for all eternity. The Jewish nation sanctifies life, not death. We hope to see the 59 hostages still in Gaza returned within our borders.”
8,000 Participants, 80 Holocaust Survivors
Today’s march will include 8,000 participants, among them Holocaust survivors, survivors of the October 7th massacre, former hostages and their families, and bereaved families.
This year, 80 Holocaust survivors from around the world are expected to participate—around 40 of them from Israel. Leading the march will be Israeli President Isaac Herzog and his wife Michal, alongside Polish President Andrzej Duda. Also attending is Merrill Eisenhower, great-grandson of General Dwight D. Eisenhower, who led the liberation of the camp at the end of World War II.
At the conclusion of the march, a central ceremony will take place. On stage, Daniel Weiss, a resident of Kibbutz Be’eri whose parents were murdered on October 7th, will appear alongside freed hostage Agam Berger. Agam is scheduled to play a 130-year-old violin that survived the Holocaust in Europe and was brought to Israel.
