The Ministry of Communications has approved a license this week for the company HOT to operate an international undersea cable that will run through Israel and connect countries in Asia and Europe. The license permits the activation of an international transmission system via submarine cables. The new cable is expected to link Israel with Europe, the Middle East, and eventually with Singapore — positioning the country as a major hub on the global communications map.
Fast and Reliable Access to Information
This move is part of the response to the rapid growth in international data traffic. The Ministry of Communications emphasized that the project will strengthen Israel’s role in global communications infrastructure and provide fast, reliable access to information for public institutions, tech companies, and businesses. The new cable will also serve as a backup solution when needed and contribute to improving digital services nationwide.

“An important step in turning Israel into a gateway between continents”
Minister of Communications Shlomo Karhi noted that the new undersea cable license is a significant step toward making Israel a bridge between continents and a global center for data flow. “This is a strategic move that will strengthen Israel’s digital sovereignty, enhance the reliability and security of its communications services, and directly support the country’s economic and technological growth.”

Elad Kedem, Director General of the Ministry of Communications, also welcomed the initiative: “Granting the license for a new undersea cable system reinforces Israel’s strategic position as a global communications hub by leveraging its geographic advantage.” He explained that systems like these are essential national infrastructure for economic growth, innovation, and maintaining a continuous, secure, and advanced connection between Israel and the world.
This initiative is part of the Ministry’s broader strategy to strengthen Israel’s global connectivity, which includes accelerating the deployment of advanced communications infrastructure and streamlining licensing processes.
