Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir held a situational assessment today (Sunday) along the Lebanon border together with the head of Northern Command, Maj. Gen. Ori Gordin, and additional commanders, ahead of the upcoming holidays. During the visit, the Chief of Staff met with commanders operating in the region—both regular and reserve—and expressed his appreciation for their work and dedication.

The visit was part of the IDF’s preparations for the near future, with a focus on strengthening security operations.

Reviewing operational plans
During the assessment, the Chief of Staff was presented with operational plans for both defense and offense, aimed at continuing to reinforce the country’s borders.
“We are continuing the campaign to strengthen our defenses while maintaining initiative and offensive readiness,” said Zamir.

We will do everything to strengthen the reserves
Zamir offered words of praise for the reserve forces:
“If there’s something remarkable about the people of Israel—it’s you. We’ll do everything we can to strengthen the reserve system in all areas. People continue to report for duty because of your leadership—you, the commanders.”

The Chief of Staff also reiterated his directive that civilians are not permitted to hike beyond the international border, but only within Israeli territory and in areas where hikes have previously been authorized, according to the current security situation.

Those who give more will receive more
Earlier in the day, Zamir visited the Tel Hashomer recruitment base, where he met with new surveillance soldiers at the beginning of their enlistment. He spoke with them about the importance of their role and the need for inclusive recruitment across all sectors of Israeli society.

“This war proved more than ever,” Zamir said, “that surveillance soldiers are a vital part of maintaining national security—you are the eyes of the state. The IDF failed on October 7, but the surveillance soldiers on duty did not fail. They were the first to act bravely under fire.”

“The IDF operates in every arena, each with its own challenges. That’s why we need each and every one of you, and we are adapting ourselves to different sectors of the population. The IDF’s position is clear—equality in sharing the burden. Those who give more, will receive more. Everyone needs to carry the stretcher of national security.”

The visit was also attended by the Head of the IDF’s Manpower Directorate, Maj. Gen. Dado Bar Kalifa, along with other senior commanders.
