A Little Rhino Calf and a Big Surprise
The Ramat Gan Safari shared an extraordinary post today (Tuesday) that caught many off guard. According to the story, on Monday evening, Elad, a caretaker in the African savanna area, was finishing his shift when he spotted something unexpected: a tiny rhino calf standing next to the adult female rhino, Rihanna.
A Safari Wonder
Elad initially wondered if the calf belonged to another female, but chose to stay and keep watch. He alerted the team, who quickly arrived at the scene. Staff described what they saw as a “wonder”—especially given that rhinos are critically endangered and every new birth is a cause for hope.
Not a Miracle—But a Rare Evolutionary Phenomenon?
“This isn’t a miracle,” the safari team explained, “but rather a rare evolutionary phenomenon.” Their theory? Rihanna may have been carrying twins, but stress during the birth of the first calf caused her to delay delivering the second—until she felt safe enough to do so.

A Case Like This Happened in Germany
According to Keren, the safari’s zoologist, a similar case was recorded about ten years ago at a zoo in Germany, where one calf was born in July and its twin arrived about two months later. The safari team wished Rihanna and the two calves well—and said they’re still waiting to see: are they truly twins… or possibly even triplets?
And Then Came the Twist
Later that day, the safari revealed the truth: the entire story was part of a playful April Fools’ Day prank—fitting for the international day of harmless mischief, and a light-hearted moment for rhino fans everywhere.
