Growing Unrest in Gaza Draws Global Attention — But Is It Real?

As protests against Hamas spread across Gaza, questions emerge: are we witnessing genuine public frustration, or is this a calculated move by Hamas to preserve its rule?

A wave of rare and growing protests against Hamas is spreading throughout the Gaza Strip. What began in Beit Lahiya, with demonstrators calling to end the war and remove Hamas from power, has now expanded to refugee camps in Jabalia and Khan Younis.

Demonstration That Took Place In Gaza:

Gaza’s Children Want to Live
The protests have taken root even in areas long considered Hamas strongholds. Marchers have voiced anger over the group’s humanitarian failures, rising prices, and the collapse of basic services.

Chanting slogans like “Gaza’s children want to live,” demonstrators are demanding an end to the suffering and to Hamas rule. While the protests may signal a shift in public sentiment, some analysts are questioning whether Hamas itself might be leveraging public frustration to manipulate perceptions and deflect international pressure onto Israel.

Caution Amid the Chaos
Defense Minister Israel Katz addressed Gaza residents earlier this week, calling on them to rise up and insisting that the only path to ending the war is the removal of Hamas and release of Israeli hostages.

But not all observers are convinced the protests represent a true uprising.
Elad Huminor, deputy editor-in-chief at Rega News, cautioned that the demonstrations may serve Hamas’s own interests.

“Gazans can keep protesting, but we must not fall into the trap,” he wrote. “Even when its power is threatened, Hamas won’t easily give up control—and may, in fact, be coordinating these protests to project an image of stability or political openness.”

The Real Challenge: Staying Focused
The real test, analysts say, is not the protests themselves, but Israel’s ability to stay focused on its key goals: freeing the hostages and dismantling Hamas’s rule.

“This is a critical moment,” wrote one commentator. “Israel must avoid being distracted by propaganda and stay committed to the actual fight, the one that ends with the hostages coming home and the reign of terror in Gaza brought to an end.”
