Fifty foreign workers from Sri Lanka arrived in Israel this morning (Thursday) to join the renovation sector, following a bilateral agreement between the two nations. Upon arrival, they were welcomed by representatives from the Foreign Workers Administration at the Population and Immigration Authority.
Workers Trained in Sri Lanka
The workers underwent professional training and assessments in Sri Lanka and were selected based on the industry’s technical requirements. In the coming weeks, additional workers are expected to arrive as part of efforts to address the labor shortage.
Severe Labor Shortage in the Renovation Sector
Following the events of October 7, Israel barred Palestinian workers from the Palestinian Authority from entering the country for employment, leading to a significant labor shortage in the construction and renovation sectors. Before the war, tens of thousands of Palestinian workers were employed in the industry, and their absence has caused substantial disruptions, rising costs, and delays in major projects.
Given the pressing labor crisis, Israel has expedited agreements to bring in foreign workers, focusing on professionals from Sri Lanka, India, Moldova, and other countries.
