At the Kaplan Medical Center NICU, Purim was celebrated this year in a particularly moving way, the tiny preemies dressed up as superheroes, while their parents and the medical staff were the dedicated stars who care for them endlessly.
Moments of Smiles, Warmth, and Hope
The special activity was initiated by Shlomit Cohen, an occupational therapist in the NICU, who personally crafted tiny capes for the sweet preemies, instantly transforming them into Supermen, Wonder Women, and other colorful heroes.
The entire department was filled with a festive atmosphere, adorned with costumes, decorations, and many moments of smiles, warmth, and hope for the parents accompanying their infants on their unique journey.
Small in Size, but Huge in Strength and Spirit
Dr. Kalanit Hershkovitz Shfaran, head of the neonatal and preemie department at Kaplan Medical Center, emphasized the importance of joy in the department: “Our preemies are the real superheroes, small in size, but immense in their strength and spirit. It is important for us to bring a festive atmosphere to the department because joy has healing power,” Shfaran explained.
She added, “It enhances the parents’ sense of security, improves their experience, and even contributes to the infants’ development. Purim is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the strength of the preemies and the infinite love of the parents and the caring staff who support them with dedication.”
