IDF Celebrates Purim with 125,000 Megillot Esther and Thousands of Gift Baskets for Soldiers

The IDF distributed approximately 125,000 Megillot Esther to various units across the country, including about 2,000 kosher parchment scrolls to be used for the official readings of the Megillah.

In preparation for the Purim holiday, the IDF’s military rabbinate distributed approximately 125,000 Megillot Esther to various units throughout the country, of which about 2,000 kosher parchment scrolls will be used for formal readings of the Megillah, held in all units by military rabbis.

5,000 Gift Baskets
Additionally, the Technology and Logistics Branch, led by the IDF’s supply headquarters, provided approximately 5,000 gift baskets to male and female fighters in different sectors, along with about 500 gluten-free gift baskets to allow all soldiers to participate in the festival’s joy.

Alongside the gift baskets, about 460,000 hamantaschen in a variety of flavors, including chocolate, poppy seeds, dates, vegan, and gluten-free, were delivered to all IDF bases, ensuring that every soldier can enjoy the holiday pastry according to their dietary preferences.

As part of the holiday preparations, the military rabbinate also distributed about 8,000 copies of “Halacha as it pertains to Purim,” (translation of Halacha is Jewish Law), aimed at deepening soldiers’ familiarity with the commands and laws of the holiday, helping them maintain tradition during their military service.

The IDF continues to uphold tradition and ensure that every soldier can celebrate Purim while maintaining the spirit of the holiday and the routine of operations in various sectors.
