Hostage survivor Romi Gonen, who was kidnapped on October 7 and released from Gaza after over a year, posted an emotional update on her Instagram account from the hospital today, sharing her rehabilitation journey and her hopes for the future.

“Today has finally arrived. A year and four months where all I wanted was for them to treat my hand and return to the independence I’ve been missing so much,” Gonen wrote, detailing the long road she has traveled since her injury to the moment she finally gets the treatment she longed for. “I’m afraid of the pain, the rehabilitation, the outcomes, only this time I’m in the best hands possible, surrounded by all the people I love and I believe that all the good is still ahead of me.”

Alongside her personal struggles, Gonen does not forget those who remain behind and expresses hope for the swift release of the other hostages. “There are still hostages in Gaza who yearn for what I’ve experienced in the last month, and they too deserve to experience that freedom and support. We must continue to fight until the last hostage is home.”

Additionally, Gonen shares that she will soon meet with soldiers in the rehabilitation department, those who fought and sacrificed themselves to save her and the other hostages. “I want to tell you that you are the strongest there is, and I can’t wait to meet you and give you a big hug.”

At the end of the post, she invites the public to pray for the safety of the hostages, the soldiers, and her personal health, attaching the traditional healing prayer: “Heal us, O Lord, and we shall be healed; Save us, and we shall be saved, for You are our praise. And grant complete healing… Blessed are You, O Lord, who heals the sick of His people Israel.”
