According to U.S. intelligence assessments compiled during the final days of the Biden administration, Israel is considering significant strikes against Iranian nuclear sites as early as 2025, sources familiar with the classified report told the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday.
The intelligence suggests that Israel sees a strategic window of opportunity to act due to Iran’s growing regional weakness following the deterioration of its Shiite-axis allies across the Middle East. Senior Israeli officials are also confident that a Trump administration would be far more supportive of such military action compared to the previous Biden administration.

The report was produced as an “analytical intelligence assessment” at the start of 2025, following the transition from the Biden to Trump administration. According to the analysis, Israel will attempt to persuade President Trump to endorse and potentially join a military operation, as Israeli leaders believe he is far more likely than Biden to support an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

U.S. military officials told the Wall Street Journal that Israel would require significant American military support and additional munitions to successfully destroy Iran’s well-fortified nuclear sites.
