The mother of hostage Matan Angrest, revealed in an interview with Israel’s Channel 12 news today (Wednesday) that the family has received new evidence confirming that he is alive. The information comes months after a video surfaced showing Angrest in Hamas captivity.
Sergeant First Class Matan Angrest was kidnapped on October 7 during the fighting in southern Israel and has been held by Hamas in Gaza ever since. While in captivity, he marked his 21st birthday. His family, including his three younger siblings, Adi, Ofir, and Roi, has been waiting desperately for any sign of his well-being. The last known ‘proof of life’ was released on September 14, after 344 days in captivity, in a video message in which Angrest spoke directly to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Now, this new evidence strengthens the belief that he is still alive, though his current condition remains unknown.
New Testimonies Provide Hope for Families of Captives
Yesterday, the Berman family of Kibbutz Kfar Aza also received new information about their twin sons, Gali and Ziv, 27, who have been held in Hamas captivity since the October 7 attacks. This is the first proof of life that they received in nearly a year, as the last known evidence of their condition was received on the 52nd day of the war as part of the initial hostage release deal.
