Operation “Bashan Arrow” places Israel in a significant strategic position in the Middle East and demonstrates its determination to maintain security along the Syrian border.

Shortly after the ousting of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Israel launched Operation “Bashan Arrow,” and in the two months since, the IDF has established nine permanent military outposts beyond the border with Syria.

The outposts are located between Mount Hermon and the border triangle in the southern Golan Heights. Various sources in the Arab media have reported that they were built to withstand the region’s harsh climatic conditions, particularly during the winter season.

Careful Engagement with the Local Population
The outposts serve as observation and monitoring points for the area while also facilitating operations against targets along the Syria-Lebanon border and strikes on former Syrian military bases and installations. The operation’s goal is to establish a security buffer zone to strengthen Israel’s northeastern border defenses and prevent infiltrations or hostile actions against Israeli citizens.

Additionally, the IDF is working to establish contact with local residents in villages near the outposts but is striving to minimize direct engagement. The aim is to prevent escalation and maintain regional stability.

New Security Buffer on the Northern Border
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the Mount Hermon region six weeks ago and declared that Israel’s presence would continue at least until the end of 2025, with the goal of preventing security threats to Israel.

It is worth noting that since Assad’s regime fell, Israel has carried out dozens of strikes against Syrian air and naval bases, air defense systems, and missile storage facilities. Reports indicate that approximately 80% of Syria’s military capabilities have been destroyed.
