Following the high-profile meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House, Iran’s foreign minister appears to be shifting his stance.

During the meeting, Trump reiterated his position on Tehran’s nuclear ambitions: “Iran must not have nuclear weapons. They’re too close. I will speak with the Iranian president,” Trump declared. Now, Iran seems to be reconsidering its approach.

Iran’s Foreign Minister: “If America’s Problem Is Our Nuclear Program, It Can Be Solved” In response to Trump’s remarks, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made an unexpected statement today: “The U.S. policy of maximum pressure has already proven to be a failure,” he said, adding, “If America’s issue is Iran’s nuclear program, this problem can be solved.”

A Sudden Shift in Iran’s Rhetoric
Just days ago, Araghchi had taken a far more aggressive tone in an interview with the Qatari news network Al Jazeera, warning of severe consequences if Iran’s nuclear facilities were attacked.

“An attack on Iran’s nuclear sites would be one of the greatest historical mistakes, and Iran would respond immediately and decisively,” Araghchi said at the time. He went further, adding, “The U.S. and Israel know very well which targets we can strike in response.” Now, with Trump putting nuclear talks back on the table, Araghchi’s latest statement suggests a notable change in Iran’s posture.

What’s Behind Iran’s Sudden Shift?

The unexpected softening in Iran’s stance raises questions: Is Tehran feeling the pressure from Trump’s strong rhetoric? Is Iran looking for a diplomatic off-ramp amid increasing tensions? Or is this simply a strategic move to buy time? With negotiations potentially back on the table, the world will be watching to see whether this shift leads to real diplomatic progress—or if Iran is simply playing for time.
