Gallant is not the first Israeli to be accepted as a research fellow at the institute. He follows a list of senior Israeli security officials, including Gabi Ashkenazi, Amos Yadlin, Yoram Cohen, and the incoming IDF Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir.

Next week, Gallant is expected to travel to Washington for an orientation visit before formally joining the institute. At this point, it remains unclear whether the former Defense Minister will permanently relocate to Washington or commute between the U.S. and Israel for fulfillment of his new role.

Gallant’s office has not issued any comments on the matter.
