A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office emphasized that Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) remain active in the area and maintain tight control: “No one passes through the crossing without supervision, monitoring, and prior approval by the IDF and Shin Bet.”
According to Netanyahu’s office, the reports are part of a campaign by the Palestinian Authority to create a false narrative. The statement reaffirmed that the crossing is fully secured by the IDF: “According to the agreement, IDF forces surround the crossing, and no one passes without supervision, monitoring, and prior approval by the IDF and Shin Bet.”
Netanyahu: Palestinian Authority’s Role Limited to Passport Stamping
The statement clarified that technical operations within the crossing are carried out by Gazans unaffiliated with Hamas. These individuals, vetted by the Shin Bet, have been responsible for civilian services such as electricity, water, and sewage management since the onset of the war. Oversight of their activities is conducted by the international body EUBAM (European Union Border Assistance Mission).
Prime Minister Netanyahu commented further: “The Palestinian Authority’s only practical involvement is stamping passports, as per the existing international agreement. This arrangement allows Gazans to exit the Strip for entry into or transit through other countries. This system applies to Phase One of the framework and will be reevaluated in the future.”
Earlier Reports Denied
Earlier today, Arab media outlets claimed that Mossad and Shin Bet officials reached an understanding with the Egyptian intelligence chief, allowing the PA to manage the Palestinian side of the Rafah Crossing under UN supervision. However, the Prime Minister’s Office has categorically denied these reports.
