The Sheba Medical Center is gearing up for the anticipated return of the hostages to Israel. A specially designed, advanced facility has been built to provide a warm, safe, and supportive environment for their physical and emotional recovery. The new center aims to offer a sense of home and security, featuring carefully designed private rooms, intimate treatment areas, and infrastructure tailored to special needs.

A Sense of Home

The facility includes spacious private rooms for each released hostage, equipped with meticulously chosen details: comfortable beds, stylish seating areas, soft carpets, and soothing lighting. Attention was given to every small detail, such as natural greenery, calming artwork, and warm corridor designs. All these elements aim to create a sense of home for those returning from captivity.

Carolyn Batz Cheshin, a deputy director at the medical center, described the extraordinary preparations:
“Our primary goal is to help the hostages feel human and free again. Privacy was our top priority in designing this special facility.” Every detail was planned to foster a homely and relaxing atmosphere.

Personalized Care and Rehabilitation

Treatment and psychology rooms in the facility were specially adapted, with comfortable furnishings and an intimate work environment. Family meeting rooms were also established, allowing relatives to spend time with their loved ones in a welcoming setting.

“This time, every released hostage has not only a private room with a bed for a companion but also an additional room for family gatherings,” Batz Cheshin explained. “We are preparing for more complex health and psychological conditions than before and anticipate that family members will want to stay close to their loved ones for extended periods.”

Each room has been pre-stocked with essentials such as clothing, pajamas, slippers, and luxury toiletries to help the hostages adjust to their new lives with ease.

Nutritional Support and a Positive Atmosphere

Special attention has also been given to nutrition, with personalized menus designed to meet each individual’s needs in collaboration with experienced nutrition teams.

“We are ready and well-prepared,” Batz Cheshin concluded. “Our goal is for every returnee to feel they’ve arrived at a safe, warm, and embracing place that will aid their recovery and rehabilitation.”
