A New Addition to the Biden Family
President Joe Biden became a great-grandfather on Wednesday when his granddaughter Naomi welcomed her first child, a baby boy, in Los Angeles. This marks the first time in U.S. history that a sitting president has celebrated the birth of a great-grandchild. First Lady Jill Biden shared the joyful news on Instagram, revealing the baby’s name: William Brannon.
In his statement, Biden said, “The good news is that as of today, I’m a great-grandfather. My granddaughter gave birth to a baby boy today, weighing 10.23 pounds (4.64 kg).” Biden, who is nearing the end of his presidency, has five children and seven grandchildren with whom he frequently spends time. Now, he has a new family member waiting for him in California.

A Controversial Figure in the Family’s History
The baby’s mother, Naomi, is the daughter of Hunter Biden, a figure who has faced intense scrutiny in recent years. Hunter has been the subject of federal charges and public criticism related to struggles with drug and alcohol addiction. Last December, just days before sentencing in two separate cases—one involving a federal firearms charge and the other related to tax evasion—President Biden issued a pardon for his son.
