Against the backdrop of the departure of the Israeli delegation to Qatar this morning (Thursday) for the continuation of talks, families of hostages traveled together from Tel Aviv to the Gaza border to cry out as close as possible to their loved ones held captive by Hamas. During a demonstration held at the border this morning, the families set up giant speakers to amplify their cries.<\/p>\n
Following this, the families ran towards the fence at the Gaza Strip, crossing the first barrier, where the police stopped their advance to prevent them from entering a dangerous area. Eventually, the families complied with the security forces’ request and returned to Kibbutz Nirim.<\/p>\n
One of the police officers who asked the hostage families to return to the safety of the kibbutz made a particularly emotional statement. “I cried like a little girl. No one identifies with you more than we do,” the officer told the families. “You are endangering our lives and yours. Please, don’t make us use force. We’re not there; you are our brothers.”<\/p>\n
Ella Ben Ami called out to her father: “Dad! I love you, I will do everything to hug you again. Hang in there, don’t break. It’s hard, but you will be okay! You will return, and we will all hug you! Dad, we are all waiting for you here. You are so missed, missed by all of us. You have to survive this until the end.”<\/p>\n
Rachel, the mother of Hirsch Goldberg-Polin, called out to him: “I need you to know that I give you the blessing I give you every morning when I pray for you. I lift my hands towards Gaza and call on God to bless you and keep you.”<\/p>\n
Yehuda Cohen, the father of armored corps soldier Nimrod Cohen, called out: “Dad is speaking to you, we are still fighting for you! I will not give up until you come home; I will continue to run everywhere in the world until we secure a deal that frees you and all the hostages.” Yehuda addressed his son and said: “I want you to hear me just to give you strength, just so you have the strength to wait until we bring you back!”<\/p>\n
Verda Ben Baruch, the grandmother of Idan Alexander, called out to her grandson: “Can you hear us, Idanile? Dad and Mom are waiting for you in America; you came here to enlist in the army. Be strong, we are strong for you! We love you very much and are waiting for you!”<\/p>\n
The hostage families and the demonstrators who accompanied them had already set out yesterday afternoon in a convoy of vehicles from the Hostages Square to the Gaza Envelope for the demonstration. They stopped at the Be’eri Amphitheater, where they issued a statement on the occasion of the Israeli team’s departure for Doha: “The opportunity to bring everyone back is slipping away with each passing day.
