In the shadow of anti-Semitism around the world, the Blue and White delegation to the Paris Olympics will be accompanied by increased security with a large number of Shin Bet security guards. The security budget for the delegation is the highest of any budget invested in the past for the security needs of an Israeli sports delegation abroad, and it includes technological measures that have never been used in them at similar events.<\/p>\n
The security budgeting of the Israeli delegations is the responsibility of the Ministry of Culture and Sports – Minister Miki Zohar decided to increase the security budget of the delegation to Paris significantly, so that the budget will be more than NIS 7 million.<\/p>\n
In addition, the Shin Bet’s unit 730 for the security of personnel and delegations is responsible for the complex security project. The Israeli Olympic Committee is in contact on a daily basis with its international counterpart, the French police, the municipality of Paris, the organizing committee and unit 730. The Israeli athletes received instructions and precautionary rules in order to maintain their personal safety, and among other things, they were instructed not to stay in the Olympic Village for more than 48 hours after their competition. “This is a complex security project with meticulous operational planning that lasted more than two years,” said a security official, and confirmed that “advanced technological systems are integrated into the security of the expedition – including defense systems, cyber systems and smart detection systems.”<\/p>\n

Minister Zohar visited last month together with representatives of the Olympic Committee the Shin Bet’s training facility, where they were presented with the possible scenarios and the expected response that would be given to them by the security teams. Before the departure of the delegation, there is continuous contact with the local forces in France who work in full cooperation with the Shin Bet and provide an envelope hermetically sealed for the delegation and the Israeli security forces. Also, there is an escort of the intelligence community on its various branches, in Israel and abroad. The security source also said that “the cooperation with the Ministry of Sports and Culture, Minister Miki Zohar and the Olympic Committee is excellent. They understand the importance and have fully engaged, both in terms of budget and in response to security requirements.”<\/p>\n
Minister Zohar announced that the budget is open to whatever is required, including increasing it as needed. Meanwhile, in recent months, the minister held a series of meetings and professional meetings with Shin Bet chief Ronan Bar, the heads of the organization’s security division and the director of the security division at the Ministry of Culture and Sports, where he was informed about the special preparations.<\/p>\n
