The holiday was established in 1984 by U.S. President Ronald Reagan, who declared ice cream \u201ca nutritious and wholesome food.\u201d Since then, the day has been marked annually \u2013 sometimes on the third Sunday of July in other countries.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Sweetest Israeli Names<br \/>\n<\/strong>In honor of this hot summer holiday, Israel\u2019s Central Bureau of Statistics checked how many Israelis share names with popular ice cream flavors. Here\u2019s what they found:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Karamel (Caramel)<\/strong> \u2013 86 people<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tut (Strawberry)<\/strong> \u2013 70<\/li>\n<li><strong>Shoko (Chocolate)<\/strong> \u2013 10<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tofi (Toffee)<\/strong> \u2013 6<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vanil (Vanilla)<\/strong> \u2013 3<\/li>\n<li><strong>Limon (Lemon)<\/strong> \u2013 1<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A pretty sweet list \u2013 with caramel clearly topping the charts!<\/p>\n<p><strong>The First Scoops in Israel<br \/>\n<\/strong>The history of Israeli ice cream goes back nearly a century. In <strong>1<\/strong>923, Yitzhak Wintroob, who immigrated from London, opened the \u201cBar Kochva\u201d Caf\u00e9 in Tel Aviv \u2013 the first place in the country to sell ice cream.<\/p>\n<p>But not everyone got to enjoy it: in May 1942, the British Mandate government banned ice cream sales due to shortages of milk and sugar.
