The material, part of the unit titled \u201cDecolonization and Nationalism (10.7),\u201d defines Zionism as an example of \u201cextreme nationalism\u201d and describes it as \u201cthe belief that Jews need a homeland in Palestine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another section, labeled \u201cTerrorist Acts by Israel and Palestine,\u201d cites \u201cthe Jewish settlement movement taking land from Palestinians\u201d as an example\u2014language that has drawn sharp criticism from both political and educational figures.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">New York State 10th grade Regent Exam study guide &#8211; this is straight out of a Hamas propaganda playbook <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NYSEDNews?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@NYSEDNews<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Who compiled and approved this garbage? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/nK7gmA2DAd\">pic.twitter.com\/nK7gmA2DAd<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 StopAntisemitism (@StopAntisemites) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/StopAntisemites\/status\/1932204885640098112?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 9, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Material Was Not Approved and Will Be Reviewed<\/strong><br \/>\nBrian Conboy, interim superintendent of the Half Hollow Hills school district, addressed the controversy at a school board meeting Monday. He clarified that the materials were neither written nor approved by the district\u2019s social studies department and predate Hamas\u2019s October 7 terror attack. \u201cAs previously discussed, the HHH social studies department will be convening over the next two months to revise its curriculum and address these exact issues. All future programs will be reviewed by an external panel of experts, and all teachers will use standardized materials and language,\u201d Conboy said.<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cInaccurate and offensive content like this does not meet our standards of excellence. We can and will do better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>New York State Education Department Responds: \u201cWe Don\u2019t Create Curriculum\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\nJ.P. O\u2019Hare, a spokesperson for the New York State Education Department, emphasized that NYSED \u201cdoes not create or distribute curriculum or study guides,\u201d adding that the department \u201cwill continue to monitor and take appropriate action as necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Outrage in Congress: \u201cDemonization of Zionism\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\nRep.
