In recent months, the IDF has appointed an officer with the rank of captain to serve as the military attach\u00e9 at Israel\u2019s permanent mission to the United Nations. The appointment, made at the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, marks a significant change for the mission, which until now had no permanent IDF representative.<\/p>\n
The attach\u00e9\u2019s role is to assist in strengthening international legitimacy for the IDF\u2019s operations in Gaza. According to the IDF, the main reason for the appointment is the desire to deepen international understanding of Israel\u2019s positions, particularly regarding its military activity in Gaza, and to help manage incoming inquiries on the topic.<\/p>\n
The U.S. veto<\/strong> \nLast Thursday, the UN Security Council held a vote on a resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, without clearly conditioning it on the release of the hostages.
