According to the federal prosecutor, the suspect underwent ideological and military training and took part in fighting for a brief period in Yemen\u2019s Marib Governorate.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect, identified as Hussein H., a Yemeni national, was arrested near Munich. He is currently being held in custody as authorities consider whether to file formal charges.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fought for the Organization<\/strong><br \/>\nAccording to the official statement, Hussein joined the Houthi ranks in October 2022. He received ideological training, followed by approximately three months of military training. In 2021, two former German soldiers attempted to form a private militia of 100\u2013150 fighters to intervene in Yemen\u2019s civil war and offer their services to the Saudi government. The plan involved combat operations in Houthi-controlled territory. The men were arrested and prosecuted for attempting to form a terrorist organization. In 2022, they were convicted and handed suspended prison sentences.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Fight Against the Houthis Is Not Only Military<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Houthis have faced increasing international criticism for serious violations of human rights and international law. Many countries are taking action against the group\u2014not only on the battlefield. For example, in January 2025, the Trump administration re-designated the Houthis as a Foreign Terrorist Organization following their attacks on civilian vessels in the Red Sea and on U.S. Navy ships.
