The mission is being hailed as \u201cthe dawn of the era of space-based computing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rather than serving solely as eyes and ears in space, these satellites also function as brains. They are the world\u2019s first satellite cluster designed to process information independently in orbit, without relying on ground-based computing systems. Data collected in space is processed directly onboard the satellites\u2014and only the results are transmitted back to Earth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Launch of the satellite group into space, WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Long March-2D launches \u201cSpace Computing Satellite Constellation\u201d\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/w5l3dcJz2ew?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/reganews.co.il\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThree-Body Group\u201d: AI Satellites with Brains<\/strong><br \/>\nThe system, named the <em>Three-Body Computing Constellation<\/em>, consists of 12 satellites with a combined processing capacity of 5 petaflops per second, 30 terabytes of onboard data storage, laser communication links of up to 100 gigabits per second, and built-in capabilities for image analysis and space science applications.<\/p>\n<p>Equipped with advanced artificial intelligence models, the satellites can analyze radar and optical images and detect astronomical phenomena in real time. One of the satellites carries an instrument for measuring the polarization of cosmic X-rays, intended to detect events such as gamma-ray bursts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A Broad Vision: 2,800 Satellites<\/strong><br \/>\nThis recent launch is just the first step in a much larger initiative: the &#8220;Star-Compute Program&#8221;, a collaboration between ADA Space and Zhejiang Lab\u2014an advanced research institute based in Hangzhou and supported by the Chinese government, Zhejiang University, and Alibaba Group.<\/p>\n<p>Their stated goal is to deploy a full-scale network of 2,800 satellites that will form a comprehensive space-based computing array.
