In a rare interview with the British outlet Sky News, senior Hamas official Basem Naim claimed that the organization is engaging in direct contact with members of the U.S. government and is open to transferring authority over Gaza as part of a broader ceasefire deal.<\/p>\n

Hamas: We\u2019re Ready to Step Aside<\/strong>
\nNaim said Hamas has submitted a peace proposal through intermediaries and \u201cdirectly to specific individuals in the U.S. administration.\u201d The proposal reportedly includes a prisoner exchange, full IDF withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, unrestricted humanitarian aid access, and reconstruction of Gaza without forced displacement.<\/p>\n

Most notably, Naim said Hamas is willing to hand over governance of Gaza to an independent body if a comprehensive ceasefire is achieved. He confirmed Hamas had accepted the Egyptian initiative proposing a politically neutral Palestinian administration to manage the territory.<\/p>\n

Trump Has the Will and Ability to Deliver Peace<\/strong>
\nAddressing former President Donald Trump\u2019s role, Naim stated: \u201cI believe President Trump has both the ability and the desire to bring about a peaceful solution. If he applies enough pressure on Israel to end the war, we will work with him to achieve a quieter Middle East.\u201d<\/p>\n

White House Responds: Hamas Still Holding Hostages, Attacking Civilians<\/strong>
\nIn response to Naim\u2019s comments, the White House issued a firm statement: \u201cHamas has shown no indication that it is serious about peace,\u201d said James Hewitt, spokesperson for the National Security Council. He added that Trump has been clear: Hamas must disarm. Hewitt noted the group continues to hold hostages\u2014including the bodies of American citizens\u2014and target civilians in ongoing attacks.<\/p>\n

\nTrump in Riyadh: \u201cWe\u2019re Trying to Make Peace in Gaza\u201d<\/strong>
\nSpeaking during his recent visit to Saudi Arabia and a historic meeting with Syrian leader Jolani, Trump addressed the situation in Gaza: \u201cWe are trying to make peace in Gaza,\u201d he said. \u201cBut it can\u2019t happen while the leadership there is murdering and raping innocent people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump also reiterated his administration\u2019s efforts to secure the release of hostages still held in Gaza: \u201cWe are working hard to end this horrific war. Every civilized person must condemn the atrocities of October 7 against Israel.\u201d He added that such a terror attack \u201cwould never have happened\u201d if he had been president at the time.<\/p>\n
