As high-stakes negotiations continue in Doha to secure the release of Israeli hostages, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu requested a 90-minute recess from his court testimony this morning (Wednesday) to consult with U.S. President Donald Trump\u2019s special envoy, Steve Witkoff. The request reflects Israel\u2019s heightened focus on diplomatic progress surrounding the so-called Witkoff Framework.<\/p>\n
In his appeal to the court, Netanyahu explained: \u201cWe are acting according to our priorities and the balance between my obligation to appear here and the national needs of the country during wartime.\u201d The Prime Minister further stated that he would not be able to extend his court appearance until 4:00 p.m. as previously scheduled, citing other urgent matters.<\/p>\n
Families Travel to Doha for Talks<\/strong> \nA small delegation of hostage families departed for Doha on Tuesday to meet with top Qatari officials, including Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. They are also expected to meet with President Trump, who is overseeing American efforts to facilitate a resolution.<\/p>\n
The mission is being led by Israeli businessman Eytan Stibbe, and aims to advance negotiations for the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas. U.S. Commitment to Hostage Deal<\/strong> \nWitkoff reaffirmed America\u2019s firm commitment to recovering all hostages\u2014both the living and the deceased. \u201cIf we didn\u2019t believe there was a chance for real progress, we wouldn\u2019t have come to Doha,\u201d he told the families. Israeli diplomatic sources expressed cautious optimism, citing real potential for movement, while noting that talks are ongoing under active conflict, with no formal ceasefire in place.<\/p>\n
Proposed Deal: 40-Day Truce and Humanitarian Aid<\/strong> \nThe negotiation centers on a plan to release a portion of the surviving hostages in exchange for a 40-day ceasefire, the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, and the initiation of political dialogue aimed at ending the conflict. Israeli officials stressed that even if the talks fail to yield a comprehensive agreement, any release of hostages would not trigger a resumption of hostilities by Israel.<\/p>\n
