Today (Monday) marks Pesach Sheni ,<\/em>\u201cSecond Passover<\/span>.\u201d\u00a0 A holiday symbolizing the possibility to correct past mistakes. Traditionally, this holiday was granted by G-d at the request of those who were unable to reach the Temple or bring the Passover sacrifice at the right time.\u00a0 On Iyar, they get a second chance to give their offering.<\/p>\n

The Message of Pesach Sheni
\n<\/strong>Pesach Sheni came into being due to the sincere appeal of a group that missed the original Passover sacrifice. This story teaches us that nothing is truly lost. When a person feels a spiritual void, they should seek and receive a second opportunity<\/p>\n

The core message of Pesach Sheni<\/em> is that “a situation is never truly hopeless” \u2013 if there is a genuine and honest will to improve, the chance to make amends will be granted. Sometimes, a second opportunity is even more meaningful than the first because it stems from deeper understanding and sincere desire.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>Beyond its historical significance, Pesach Sheni<\/em> also embodies social values. In recent years, some communities have marked this day as “Religious Tolerance Day”, emphasizing that no matter how far one has strayed, if they sincerely seek a second chance, it will be granted.<\/p>\n

Unique Customs of Pesach Sheni
\n<\/strong>On this day, Tachanun <\/em>– a penitential prayer is omitted from services, highlighting its celebratory nature. Some have the custom of eating matzah to symbolize correction and a renewed opportunity, although chametz<\/em> (leavened bread) is not forbidden. Many Hasidic communities hold festive meals\u00a0with symbols of the Passover Seder and four cups of wine to emphasize the joyous nature of the day.<\/p>\n

In the past, Pesach Sheni<\/em> was an occasion for pilgrimage to Mount Meron, particularly to the graves of righteous figures. The tradition continues, with many visiting the tomb of Rabbi Meir Baal HaNes<\/em> in Tiberias, where Torah study and candle lighting ceremonies take place.<\/p>\n
