Edelstein: This Will Be a Real Law, Not a Bluff<\/strong>
\nChairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, MK Yuli Edelstein, was interviewed today (Tuesday) by Israeli Newspaper Makor Rishon, <\/em>and elaborated on the conscription law that is expected to be drafted next week by the committee\u2019s legal team.<\/p>\n

Edelstein emphasized that the new law will be a \u201creal law,\u201d not a bluff, and will include both personal and institutional sanctions against those who evade the draft.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt first I thought we could manage without sanctions,\u201d he admitted. \u201cNow it’s clear that we can’t.\u201d<\/p>\n

You Can\u2019t Go to War Without Munitions\u2014Or Manpower<\/strong>
\nHe added that the primary goal is to meet the actual needs of the IDF. \u201cYou can\u2019t go to war without munitions,\u201d he said, \u201cand similarly, we must assess the manpower situation. You can\u2019t keep calling up reservists for the sixth and seventh rounds while there\u2019s a pool of tens of thousands of potential recruits who, unfortunately, aren\u2019t showing up.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Edelstein, even if the IDF is not yet fully prepared to integrate Haredim (the ultra-Orthodox), a combined model involving civil and security service could be implemented in the first stage.<\/p>\n

Advancing a Process to Restore Israeli Control in Disengagement Zones<\/strong>
\nRegarding the issue of sovereignty, Edelstein stressed that this should be a core objective of the right-wing government. \u201cThis isn\u2019t just another budget for a regional council\u2014it\u2019s a significant change,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

He also noted that with wisdom, it would be possible to promote a process that restores Israeli control in the disengaged areas, including Gaza\u2014but only after the defeat of Hamas and the return of the hostages.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
