Minister of Jerusalem Affairs and Jewish Tradition, Meir Porush, sent a letter of congratulations today (Sunday) to the new U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, as he began his official duties. In the letter, Porush emphasized the importance of the close relationship between the two countries, while also making a personal reference to their shared values of faith and tradition.<\/p>\n

“A strong and deep bond between our two nations”<\/strong>
\n“Your long-standing friendship with the people of Israel and your unwavering support for our eternal capital, Jerusalem, are deeply appreciated and greatly valued,” wrote Porush. He added that Huckabee\u2019s arrival in Israel “is not only a continuation of the strong and deep bond between our two nations, but also a personal expression of the shared values of faith, freedom, and tradition that bind us together so closely.”<\/p>\n

The minister went on to express his anticipation for fruitful collaboration: “As Minister of Jerusalem Affairs and Jewish Tradition, I look forward to close cooperation with you in strengthening the cultural, historical, and spiritual ties between our countries. Together, we can deepen our mutual understanding and reinforce the special connection between the people of the United States and the people of Israel\u2014especially with regard to the unique and sacred status of Jerusalem.”<\/p>\n

“Your decision to visit the Western Wall upon arrival carries powerful symbolism”<\/strong>
\nThe minister also welcomed Ambassador Huckabee\u2019s decision to visit the Western Wall immediately upon his arrival in Israel: “Your choice to visit the Western Wall as soon as you landed in the country is a powerful and meaningful symbol of friendship toward our people and the city of Jerusalem.”<\/p>\n
