It is during this month that Jews celebrate Pesach (Passover), marking the Exodus from Egypt and the birth of the Jewish nation.<\/p>\n<p>Fittingly, Nisan also brings with it one of the most beloved seasonal blessings in Jewish tradition\u2014<em><strong>Birkat Ha\u2019Ilanot<\/strong><\/em>, the blessing recited upon seeing fruit trees in blossom. Archive | Photo: Yaakov Naumi \/ Flash90<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Jewish Law Guidelines for Birkat Ha\u2019Ilanot<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Where to Say It<\/strong>: The blessing should be recited in front of two different species of fruit trees, both visibly in bloom, with flowers on their branches.<\/li>\n<li><strong>When to Say It<\/strong>: The ideal time to recite the blessing is from the beginning of Nisan until the end of the month. Many make an effort to recite it as soon as possible, on Rosh Chodesh.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Women<\/strong>: Although <em>Birkat Ha\u2019Ilanot<\/em> is a time-bound <em>mitzvah<\/em> (commandment), most halachic authorities maintain that women are obligated to recite it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Type of Tree<\/strong>: The blessing should be made only over fruit-bearing trees, not decorative or barren ones.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reciting on Shabbat<\/strong>: There are halachic (Jewish law) opinions that permit reciting <em>Birkat Ha\u2019Ilanot<\/em> on Shabbat, though local customs may vary.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Community Traditions<\/strong>: In many Sephardic communities, it is customary to add psalms and prayers to elevate the occasion spiritually.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Birkat Ha\u2019Ilanot<\/em> beautifully captures the essence of Nisan\u2014celebrating the renewal of nature, the miracles of creation, and the opportunity to begin again with gratitude after the winter of hard times.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today is Rosh Chodesh, the first day of the month of Nisan, ushering in not only the spring season but also a spiritually rich period in the Jewish calendar.
