In a historic first, a team of runners with disabilities will participate in the 10K race of the Jerusalem Marathon this week. The team, supported by the Shalva National Center<\/a>,<\/em> will dedicate their run to the memory of IDF Major (res.) Eliav Abitbul, who was killed in southern Lebanon during the Swords of Iron War. His family members will join the run in his honor.<\/p>\n

Just What Eliav Believed In<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tal Abitbul, Eliav\u2019s widow, shared her feelings during the team\u2019s training sessions:
\n\u201cIt is deeply moving. This shows that anything is possible, when you believe in yourself and others beleive in you. It\u2019s also about equality, and seeing how sheer willpower overcomes obstacles. That\u2019s exactly what Eliav believed in, that anything is possible if you just believe.\u201d<\/p>\n

“Even if It\u2019s Hard, It\u2019s Worth It”<\/strong>
\nGila Anis, a team member with Down syndrome, added: \u201cEven if it\u2019s hard, it\u2019s worth it. Because it shows I can do anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

A Marathon with Meaning<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Jerusalem Marathon is considered one of the most unique in the world, thanks to its route through the heart of the ancient city. This year, the participation of the Shalva team, running side by side with Eliav\u2019s family, gives the event deeper meaning: a celebration of resilience, inclusion, and the triumph of the human spirit.<\/p>\n

Training and Transformation<\/strong>
\nPreparing individuals with disabilities for a long-distance race requires a specialized training program, personalized support, and close professional guidance. Thanks to a team of dedicated coaches and strong community backing, the runners overcame challenges and proved that with discipline, partnership, and perseverance, they can take part in world-class sporting events.<\/p>\n
